The replacement of old asbestos siding may be needed if you want to protect the safety of everyone who stays in your home or who regularly visits your building. Not sure what that entails or what it might cost? See an estimate here.

When is it necessary to remove the asbestos siding?

The asbestos siding is primarily made up of asbestos cement, which is effective in covering the exterior of homes and buildings to prevent pest infestation, rotting and mildew. It is also capable of resisting fire. However, it triggers serious health problems if its fibers become airborne: if you breathe them in, then there is a great possibility that they will stay in your lung linings and trigger diseases related to asbestos such as mesothelioma. This is why, if the siding containing asbestos deteriorates, it may be necessary to replace it.

Not sure if you need to remove the siding? Get it tested

Asbestos siding can be prevented from deteriorating by combining general maintenance and regular inspection.  You have to regularly inspect the siding so you can instantly detect any damages.  You should also do something to protect its cement tiles from getting damaged due to bumpers or shrubs.  Using Portland or epoxy cement to slightly repair or patch up any damaged tiles might also help.

You should also consider replacing the damaged or missing tiles with tiles that does not contain asbestos. But if the safest way to deal with the problem is to completely eliminate the asbestos, you’ll need a licensed asbestos removal professional.

If you don’t know whether a complete removal of the siding is required, consider sending a sample into a lab to identify the presence of airborne fibers from asbestos. Or you can ask for an inspection by asbestos specialists – AES offers inspections, testing and removal in the entire Sydney metropolitan area as well as Canberra, Wollongong and Illawarra, Newcastle and other towns in NSW.

The Cost of Asbestos Siding Removal

Asbestos siding removal is pretty expensive so you have to first gather information about the different factors that could impact its cost before executing the whole process. Typically, the cost is around $3-$5 for removing a square foot of siding.

If you have a medium-sized house, then expect the total cost to reach $3,000.  This amount also covers the replacement of the removed materials but does not include the amount needed to purchase the replacement materials like metal or asbestos free cement siding.

Hiring an asbestos removal expert is definitely a huge help in simplifying the whole process – experts in the field are aware of the different techniques required, so you can be sure that everything is done the right way and the dangerous materials are disposed of at government-approved facilities.

If you need an asbestos removal specialist, we at AES have already made hundreds of homes within the Sydney area and in the outlying towns completely asbestos-free, and we guarantee that we can do the same thing for your home. Please get in touch with us for a quote.
